On Wednesday, June 10th, the Indian River (80) and Millville (84) fire companies were alerted to assist Bethany Beach (70) fire company with a water rescue priority in bay area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-11 with 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility, Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard, 80 Command from the Angola area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Delaware State Fire Police responded to assist as well.

All marine units responded to the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp for potential launching to the designated coordinates in an area south of the Indian River Inlet and west of the Coastal Highway.

It was reported that there were two kayakers when one kayaker was taking on water and became distressed. 

The Bethany Beach Fire Company Marine Units were already in the water performing various missions and were able to quickly respond to assist thereby holding all other responding emergency units before cancelling all marine units entirely.

All Indian River units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
