Nature: Gas Leak
Location: 35623 Joanne Dr., Mariner’s Cove, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Saturday morning, March 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak on Joanne Drive in the Mariner’s Cove development off of Long Neck Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Command 80, Engine #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included search and identify the source of the incident concern, notify the appropriate utility service provider, and isolate the concern where possible.
It was identified that an underground LP storage tank was leaking and would require the appropriate utility service provider (Sharp Gas) to respond and offer mitigation. Turning off the tank did not successfully mitigate the concern. Engine #80-1 and Tanker 80 were requested to standby and hold manpower before being authorized to return to their respective stations.
The utility service provider was dispatched to fully resolve the concern with possible tank replacement.
