Nature: Structure Fire

Location: Next Door - 31175 Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Cross Streets: Arrie Dr/Fisherman’s Rd

On Saturday evening, May 18th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a structure on Indian Mission Road.  It was reported to be a working structure fire with heavy smoke coming from the structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard location and Engine#80-3 from the Long Neck location as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.   Additional resources from the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical services providers were also alerted.

It appears that a motorist traveling on Indian Mission Road noticed a heavy smoke condition being emitted from a small structure and notified the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center.  The motorist evaluated and assisted the incident by deploying a fire extinguisher to suppression a furniture recliner fire inside a small residential structure.

An incident command unit from Lewes arrived on-scene and provided and update with respect to the incident and downgraded the response to only Indian River fire units as well as requested a fire marshal unit to respond. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Emergency response crew assignments included ventilation and evaluation for extension.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating the incident.

There were no reported injuries associated with the event.
