Nature: Water Rescue / Rescue Boat Operations Training 

City: Slaughter Beach

 

Over the past few weeks various members from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company attended and participated in water rescue course and rescue boat operations course held at the Memorial Volunteer Fire Company in Slaughter Beach, Delaware.  These courses are taught by the Delaware State Fire School.

The course attendees completed various classroom instructional objectives and then completed actual hands-on training evolutions during the day and night time hours.  Illustrated are a few of the topics taught, reviewed and practiced:  tidal conditions, visibility, tidal currents, towing, simulated rescue efforts on and near rocks and jetties, search and research simulated missions, electronic and technology familiarity and awareness, vessel operations, docking, and many other topics.

The marine units utilized during these exercises were:  80 Marine 1; 89 Marine 1; 89 Marine 2; and Marine 57.

Acknowledgements were tendered to the vessel operators from South Bowers (57), Indian River (80), Memorial (89), and Leipsic (53).
