Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: Beaver Dam Rd and Indian Mission Road, Harbeson, DE 19951

On Monday morning, August 22nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road near the intersection of Beaver Dam Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle overturned into the wood and thicket area with occupant entrapment.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. The Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Units were also dispatched to the incident.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, preparation for extrication, and assistance with patient stabilization. Personnel were able to successfully extricate the occupant via the sun roof area of the vehicle.

It appears that a Ford Escape SUV was approaching the intersection of Beaver Damn Road and Indian Mission Road and failed to navigate the intersection and turn running off into the wooded area striking trees before overturning.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
