Nature: House Fire

Location: 1 Pinewater Dr., Harbeson, DE 19951

On Sunday, June 5th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire companies were alerted for a reported house fire on Pinewater Drive in the Pinewater Farms development. It was reported via the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that numerous calls were received with reported heavy smoke and fire however uncertainty with respect to origin or nature of the incident. Additional emergency service units were included to be Sussex County Paramedics and the local ambulance service providers.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Incident Command 82 under the direction of Dylan Sharp arrived on-scene and provided incident updates prior to arrival of fire suppression units. It was identified to be a vehicle fire, fully involved, with exposures to a residential structure, woods and brush. It was also identified that the exterior of the structure had ignited.

Emergency response crew assignments included immediate activation of fire suppression attacks lines, water supply lines with 5” hose (LDH – large diameter hose) because of the tight access paths to the incident. Tanker 80 was the initial piece of apparatus on-scene followed by Engine #80-1 and Engine #80-3. Engine #80-1 performed the hose lay and Tanker 86 was prepared to supply the charging duties and responsibilities. A fire suppressant foam was utilized to assist with the suppression activities.

It appears that a Toyota SUV was parked next to a nearby residential structure and when the vehicle caught fire from an undetermined reason igniting brush extending into the exterior of the residential structure. It was not immediately known if the occupants of the residential structure were available; however, two (2) persons from the incident were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
