Nature: Training - Mobile Command Simulator Unit

On Saturday, August 29^th, a cohort of firefighters participated in a training seminar that included the Delaware State Fire School (DSFS) Mobile Command Simulator Unit to enhance knowledge, skills and abilities with managing emergency scenes, traffic control operations, and multi-agency coordination.

The DSFS Mobile Command Simulator Unit is a statewide training asset built to give Delaware’s fire service — especially incident commanders — realistic, high-fidelity comman & control training for fires, rescues, hazmat events, and multi-agency emergencies.

Its purpose is to simulate real emergency incidents so firefighters and officers can practice incident command, decision-making, and communications in a controlled, repeatable environment.

These simulations teach:

• Incident size-up — Reading the scene, identifying hazards, and establishing command.

• Strategy and tactics — Choosing offensive/defensive modes, resource deployment, and operational priorities.

• Communications discipline — Practicing structured radio traffic and command & channel management.

• Multi-agency coordination — Working with EMS, law enforcement, and public works during complex incidents.

• Planning-P cycle — Running briefings, updating objectives, and managing operational periods.

These functions align with DSFS’s published simulation based Incident Command training, which uses state-of-the-art, high-fidelity simulations to certify incident commanders
