On Thursday evening, August 20th, the Indian River (80), Millville (84) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire departments were alerted to assist Bethany Beach (70) Fire Company with a water rescue incident off Bayberry Court in the Beach Cove area.  Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the DNREC – Marine Police, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 and the United States Coast Guard – Indian River.  It was reported that a swimmer was caught in the current and could not get in.  Additional information identified possibly using a white wind-surfing board with blue or black kite

Emergency response units from Indian River included 80 Marine 1 with Utility 80-8 from the Oak Orchard facility, 80 Marine 2 with Utility 80-11 and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility as well the Delaware State Fire Police were responding the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp for launching.

Initial emergency first responders made contact with the identified wind-surfer near the Cotton Patch Boat Launch facility who was not injured nor experiencing difficulty accessing shoreline areas.

All emergency response units were cancelled and authorized to return to their respective stations.
