Nature: Structure Fire

On Sunday morning, June 7th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire department were alerted for a structure fire (trailer) on Sussex Lane in the Mariner’s Cove development off Long Neck Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. It was reported to be residential structure fire.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Chief 80, Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine 80, Squad 80 and Brush 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included 360 exterior evaluations as well as an initial interior evaluation which identified smoke from side “A’, smoke in residence but no fire, isolated to area of the refrigerator, inside the structure, with an ongoing evaluation in the crawl space of the residence. Emergency response units were held to Indian River cancelling Millsboro and Lewes as well as released EMS personnel.
It was determined to be an electric heat tape around a pipe that caught fire in the crawl space of the residence. The area was fully suppressed and ventilated as was the structure.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access.
The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
