Nature: Public Assist – Animal Rescue

Location: Creek Drive, Winding Creek Village

On Sunday, December 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company provided a public service by offering assistance to concerned residents about a feline being struck in a tree in their front yard.  It was reported that this incident involved a cat in the tree for more than four days

Indian River responded to the residential location to evaluate the concern as requested by the property owner.

After evaluation, Indian River requested apparatus assistance to eradicate the distressed feline from the tree.  The cat was located approximately 40 feet into the tree on very thin branches and limbs.

Tower 80 was utilized to access the area of concern and the cat came to one the firefighters in the aerial bucket that was there offering assistance. The cat was safely brought to the ground and transferred to the owner.   The owner will evaluate the cat for injuries, keep it indoors for warmth and to help it rest after the traumatic experience.

The residents were elated with the results of the public assist initiative.

Yes, volunteer fire companies can offer assistance to rescue cats from various predicaments.  These endeavors allow the organization’s personnel to fine tune their skill sets and to showcase that their community service extends beyond fires and accidents to animal welfare concerns.  These activities tend to encompass strong community support and appreciation for rescue efforts.
