Nature: Fire Alarm Sounding – Commercial – Multi Residential Structure

Location: 33559 Windswept Dr., Bldg #11, The Peninsula, DE 19966

On Friday afternoon, December 26^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire alarm sounding at a multi-residential structure on Windswept Drive in the Peninsula development off Bay Farm Road. It was reported to be a water flow sprinkler alarm.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an exterior and interior evaluation, visual and audible alarms were activated and water flow could be identified from pump house and pump room facilities. Additional evaluations were coordinated to identify rationale for the water flow incidents.  Facility management personnel were on location to assistance with remediation efforts.

It was determined that the fire alarm systems were malfunctioning based upon inadequate systems pressurization. The system was drained and the facility was advised to fulfil proper maintenance personnel to repair the system. 

All units were authorized to return to their respective facilities.
