Nature: Residential Structure Fire

Location: 28530 Warwick Rd Shorts, DE 19966

Early Monday, December 22^nd, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Dagsboro (73) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure off Warwick Road on Short’s Lane.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. It was reported to be a heater under the house on fire.  Flames could be seen by the homeowner.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 and Squad 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial exterior evaluation and interior evaluation including a crawl space evaluation as well as securing the utility services, primary search of the interior, ventilation, and other designated assignments.  Crews initiated two fire suppression lines in-service and located an interior fire under the stairwell.  The residential structure was balloon type construction.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
