Nature: Alarm - Residential (Single) - Smoke detector

Address: 24226 Big Oak Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

Cross Streets: Dead End/Banks Rd

On Tuesday, July 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire alarm sounding on Big Oak Lane off Banks Road.  It was reported to be an audible fire alarm sounding at a residential structure for an extended period of time.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews performed an initial exterior and interior evaluation with no visible conditions; however, all interior alarms were silent at current time.

After evaluation of all rooms and efforts to isolate the malfunctioning detector, it was determined that an high ceiling detector was malfunctioning.  The homeowner was apprised of the situation and firefighters assisted the homeowner with swapping out the battery.  All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
