Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 35253 6Th St Bay City, DE 19966
On Monday evening, June 30th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire on 6th Street in the Bay City development off Long Neck Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. Ancillary company alerts for standby and cover up assignments included the Dagsboro (73) and Gumboro (79) volunteer fire companies. It was reported to be a structure fire across the street and unknown if anyone was home at the time of the incident with multiple explosions being heard.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine 80 and 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression and exposure protection with exterior suppression tasks, water supply operations, firefighter rehab assignments, utility service disconnections, rapid intervention team assignments, primary and secondary interior search tasks, traffic control and scene access limitations, manpower pool establishment, and scene preservation activities.
First arriving emergency response units identified fully involved residential structure fire with multiple exposures on sides “B” and “D” and explosions being heard. Units implemented multiple fire suppression lines including 2 ½” blitz line as well as other handlines. There were not firefighter or civilian injuries.
The respective utility service providers were requested to the incident location for service discontinuation.
The Delaware State Police responded to the incident location.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access assignments.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal Office is investigating.
