Nature: Automatic Crash Notification

Location: 30209 Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday, June 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for an automatic crash notification on Mount Joy Road near Cannon Road.

Automatic Crash Notification Technology is within vehicles and cell phones which utilizes built-in sensors to identify impact either from vehicle collisions and/or fallen or dropped devices that can be immediately connected to offer help.  In many cases, emergency call back (9-1-1) centers attempt to make contact via phone to verify your location and the extent of concern. If there are no responses, negative responses or answers emergency first responders are dispatched to the GPS location of the incident.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was not able to make contact with the cell phone.

After an evaluation of the area and location of the cell phone in the designated area. All emergency response units were cancelled and permitted to return to their respective quarters.

The designated property is either remitted to the local police authority or returned to the rightful owner.  In this situation, the rightful owners attended the firehouse for recovery of the telephonic device.
