Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Mount Joy Rd and Oak Orchard Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Tuesday morning, June 10th , the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the Mount Joy & Oak Orchard Road intersection. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics. It was reported to be a two-vehicle collision with possible entrapment.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. The Lewes Fire Department responded with Rescue 82.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, vehicle stabilization where needed, patient stabilization where needed, fluid and debris recovery, and overall incident mitigation.
It appears that a silver Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Frontier pick up collided at the intersection of Mount Joy Road and John J. Williams Highway causing substantial damage to the Toyota. The vehicle occupants were able to extricate themselves from the vehicles allowing for the additional rescue apparatus to be cancelled prior to arrival at the incident location. All vehicle occupants were evaluated by the EMS personnel.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident with the closure of the traffic patterns through the main portion intersection for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
