Nature: Washdown (Fuel Spill)

Location: Gull Point Boat Ramp (80)

Address:  Warwick Cove Way and Crepe Myrtle Dr Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday, June 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown incident at the Gull Point Boat Ramp area.  It was reported that an aluminum type john boat was sinking and leaking fuel. Additional emergency alerts included DNREC Marine Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Brush 80 with 80 Marine 2 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews evaluated the situation, identified that the fuel containers were secured on land near the ramp area and that the boat was submerged and lodged under the dock with the bow sticking upwards.  The boat registration decal information was provided to emergency operations for further discourse with DNREC.

It appears that a marine vessel had sunk in the area of the recreational crabbing dock at the Gull Point Marina and the boat was submerged and lodged under the dock. There were no additional symptoms of leaking fuel because it had been removed and secured on land.  The vessel was left for the reclamation activities coordinated by the DNREC Marine Police personnel.

All emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective stations.
