Nature: Automatic Crash Notification – Oak Orchard West

On Sunday, June 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for an automatic crash notification on Sandy Drive in the Oak Orchard West development off Oak Orchard Road.

Automatic Crash Notification Technology is within vehicles and cell phones which utilizes built-in sensors to identify impact either from vehicle collisions and/or fallen or dropped devices that can be immediately connected to offer help.  In many cases, emergency call back (9-1-1) centers attempt to make contact via phone to verify your location and the extent of concern. If there are no responses, negative responses or answers emergency first responders are dispatched to the GPS location of the incident.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 and Incident Command 80 from the Long Neck facility. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was not able to make contact with the cell phone.  After an evaluation of the area, it was determined that this incident was unfounded. 

All emergency response units were cancelled and permitted to return to their respective quarters.
