Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: 24832 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday, May 30^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire on John J. Williams Highway in the Nanticoke Crossing Shopping Center.  It was reported to be car on fire in the shopping center parking lot.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Incident Command 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 and 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  The Lewes (82) Fire Department had a crew at their Angola facility and responded to the incident and initiated the fire suppression activities.  The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene access during the incident.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression, vehicle stabilization after suppression, scene access and traffic control for the duration of the incident.

It appears that a customer was in the grocery store when a fire ignited in the vehicle’s engine compartment causing significant damage.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
