Nature: Automatic Crash Notification - Vehicle Accident
Location: Mount Joy Rd and John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966
On Saturday, May 24th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and Mid Sussex Rescue Squad were alerted for an automatic crash notification at the intersection of Mount Joy Road and John J. Williams Highway.
Automatic Crash Notification Technology is within vehicles and cell phones which utilizes built-in sensors to identify impact either from vehicle collisions and/or fallen or dropped devices that can be immediately connected to offer help. In many cases, emergency call back (9-1-1) centers attempt to make contact via phone to verify your location and the extent of concern. If there are no responses, negative responses or answers emergency first responders are dispatched to the GPS location of the incident.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the previous dispatched vehicle accident on Hollymount Road. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was able to make contact with the cell phone and was advised that this was not an accident but rather a dropped cell phone device and no emergency services were needed.
All emergency response units were cancelled and permitted to return to their respective quarters.
