Nature: Outside Fire
Location: 26395 West Pintail Rd Pot Nets Dockside, DE 19966
On Saturday morning, May 24th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alert for an outside fire on West Pintail Road in the Pot Nets Dockside development off Long Neck Road. It was reported that a property owner was burning weeds and the fire got into her beach grass.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush 80-0 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Brush 80 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility. The Delaware State Fire Police also responded to the incident.
Emergency response crew assignments included suppression and saturation of the impacted area, check for extension into the porch, soffit and side of the residence as well as notification of the proper burning procedures within the State of Delaware during the time periods of April 1st thru September 30th. Engine 80 utilized one of their thermal imaging cameras to verify suppression.
It appears that a property owner was desirous to complete some exterior spring cleaning and was attempting to burn off weeds when the fire spread into beach grass that was around the exterior porch of her residence. The was some charring of the wood decking, vinyl siding wrap and soffit.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
All units were authorized to return to their respective stations.
