Nature: Structure Fire - Residential (Single)

On Wednesday evening, May 21^st, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire departments were alerted for a residential structure fire Rowlock Place in the Pot Nets Bayside development off Long Neck Road.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.  It was reported that the entire residential structure was full of smoke and the curtains and blinds were on fire in the kitchen area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 and 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were assigned with incident evaluation and size-up tasks which identified a triple wide manufactured home with nothing evident from the exterior and possible a candle type fire inside. The utilities were secured to the residential structure and the fire department response was downgraded to just Indian River. Assistance was provided to the homeowner with respect to smoke eradication from the interior.

It appears that a candle type device may have ignited in the kitchen area and caught the blinds and curtains on fire.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with scene access and traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
