Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 5 East Canal Ave, Lewes, DE 19958

On Monday morning, May 19^th, the Indian River (80), Milton (85), and Rehoboth Beach (86) were alerted to assist the Lewes (82) Fire Department with a residential structure fire on East Canal Avenue.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

As Indian River was traveling to the incident on location in Lewes, Indian River was diverted to an outside fire at the Dollar General location on John J. Williams Highway.

As Indian River units were redirected, an additional response with Brush 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as activated.

Emergency response crew assignment included fire suppression activities which included area saturation, removal of excess debris and vegetation as well as discussion with the store management regarding the area concerns.

It appears that the mulch and vegetation around the shrubbery and debris outside of the dumpster may be problematic.  The area was fully saturated and the landscaping was eradicated to allow for better water penetration.
