Nature: Water Rescue Priority 1 – Camp Arrowhead Area
Location: 35315 Homestead Way Lewes, DE
On Sunday afternoon, May 18th, the Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company requested the assistance of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company marine units for a water rescue incident in the Rehoboth Bay off of the Camp Arrowhead Beach area.
The Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue incident involving four (4) kayakers being pushed outward based upon the windy conditions and were having difficulty returning. It was identified that five (5) kayaks – 4 occupied and one being towed – were having difficulty. Rehoboth Beach Fire requested the assistance of Indian River and the United States Coast Guard – Indian River Squadron.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Incident Command 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crews were assigned to respond to the Camp Arrowhead Campground area near West Bay Park to the assist kayakers that were having difficulty returning to shore. Marine Units from Rehoboth Beach Fire and USCG-Indian River Squad were also responding to the incident location.
All kayakers were able to make their way to the shore and Indian River units were cancelled.
The Incident Command was coordinated via Rehoboth Beach (86) Fire Line Officers.
