Nature: Vehicle Accident w/ Medics – Vehicle vs. Motorcycle
Location: John J Williams Hwy and Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Sunday, April 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Long Neck Road. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 and Duty Officer 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization where needed, vehicle stabilization where needed, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation efforts. Tanker 80 was required to coordinate a landing zone assignment across the roadway from the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad facility.
It appears that a gold Harley Davidson motorcycle and dark gray Ford pick-up collided at or near the intersection of Long Neck Road causing the motorcycle to slide into a nearby light pole significantly injuring the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was prepped for aviation transportation to the Christiana Medical Center.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with segments of Indian Mission Road closed for the duration of the incident. The travel lanes of John J. Williams Highway and Long Neck Road were also disrupted for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
