On Saturday afternoon, March 22nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a brush fire on Wilson Myrtle Lane off Layton Davis Road.  It was reported to be a grass and brush fire as a result of a burn barrel not attended.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression activities to cease the spread of the fire as well as protection of exposures that we being impacted by the quantity of debris stockpile around them.

It appears that the residential occupants were utilizing a burn barrel that allowed embers and ashes to escape thereby igniting grass and brush that was fanned by the excessive winds in the area.  The fire did infringe upon a number of items including fallen trees, tires, a storage shed, vegetation, nearby yards and field.  The occupants were apprised that burning cessation is strongly encouraged hereafter with discontinuation of their inadequate burn barrel entirely.
