On Wednesday morning, March 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an electrical hazard on John J. Williams Highway near William Street Road.  It was reported to be a tree fallen in the primary electrical lines parallel to John J. Williams Highway and a small brush fire in the area as a result.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine 80 and Brush 80 from the Long Neck facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident evaluation, notification of the utility supply company – Delmarva Power, fire suppression and traffic control for the duration of the incident.

A tree fell and got caught in the primary electrical wires causing a small brush fire and power outrage to many residences and businesses in the Millsboro – Oak Orchard corridor.  The utility service provider, Delmarva Power, attended to the incident and assisted with removing the tree and restoration of the power to the area as quickly as possible.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control for the duration of the incident.  This necessitated the closure of John J. Williams Highway for the westbound traffic during this incident.

All emergency apparatus were redirected to another incident on John J. Williams Highway during the mitigation of this hazard.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
