Nature: Electrical Hazard

Address: Carlos Lane and Cordrey Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday morning, March 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an electrical hazard on Carlos Lane off Cordrey Road.  It was reported to be a truck caught in low hanging wires causing an electrical hazard.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident evaluation, notification of the utility supply company because the utility pole was damaged as part of the incident and needed replacement, discussed with the vehicle occupant of the condition and then pursued incident mitigation measures.

A roll-off truck container got caught in the low hanging overhead wiring which was determined to be cable television wiring and pull tension on the wiring and pole causing the utility pole to crack.  The situation was evaluated, and the driver was notified that this was a cable television wire and was able to extricate himself from the vehicle.

The utility service provider, Delmarva Power, attended to the incident and assisted with removing the cabling from the roll-off container.

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

The Delmarva Power Company was pursuing the utility pole replacement initiative.

All emergency apparatus was authorized to return to their respective quarters.
