Nature: Final Tribute for Chere Riordan from Indian River
On Friday, February 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad participated in their final tributes for Chere A. Riordan. A dedicated volunteer who served as President, board member, ambulance attendance and EMT for the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad. She was also a firefighter with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and a Life Member and Vice President of their Auxiliary.
Chere was an active part of the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad for more than 46 years; Auxiliary of Indian River for more than 18 years and firefighter with Indian River for more than 25 years. The funeral services were officiated by Rev. John Schutt of the Roxana-Zion United Methodist Church and Rev. J. Allen Miller of the Community Church of Oak Orchard. The Honorable State Representative Jeff Hilovsky, 4th District presented a State of Delaware, House of Representatives Tribute in honor of Chere. Chere’s funeral procession originated at Watson’s Funeral Home in Millsboro, east on John J. Williams Highway, right on Gull Point Road/River Road to Oak Orchard Road, and stopped in front of Indian River’s Main Station where the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center sounded her last alarm. The funeral procession then continued to the place of Interment at the Millsboro Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware. A reception followed at the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company Main Station Memorial Hall.
