Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

Location: Bayshore Dr and Long Neck Rd Bayshore, DE 19966

On Thursday afternoon, February 27^th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Milton (85) fire companies were alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of the Bayshore development.  It was reported that a person was ejected and under the vehicle after a rollover type accident. Additional EMS emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, Millsboro, LifeNet2 for aviation, and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, extrication measures, fluid and debris recovery, landing zone establishment, and traffic control. 

It appears that a marron Mitbuishi sedan was traveling on Long Neck Road before hitting another vehicle, running off the roadway, striking a tree and overturning.  Emergency response crews had to assist with vehicle extrication measures.  One person was flown via LifeNet2 to nearby medical facilities for medical attention.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the complete closure of Long Neck Road between John J. Williams Highway and School Lane/Banks Road for the duration of the incident. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) responded with directional arrowboards.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
