Nature: Gas Leak (Natural and LP Gases)

On Wednesday morning, February 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a gas leak incident at a construction site within the Pelican Point development off Cannon Road. It was reported that an underground gas line was hit by an excavator while digging rupturing the line.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crews were assigned to deploy an 1¾” hose line to protect and assist with dissipation with the gas leak which was audible and visible at the breaking point. A water supply assignment was coordinated by the Engine.
It appears that an excavator was digging at a construction site and ruptured an underground gas line causing an obvious leak. The respective utility service provider was notified and responded to the incident location to shut off and correct the gas leak situation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
