Nature: Automatic Crash Notification - Vehicle Accident with Confinement Issues

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Hazzard Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday evening, February 11^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic crash notification which was later identified as a vehicle off the roadway into the marsh area just east of Holly Lake Campground.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and an additional EMS Unit from the Lewes Fire Department.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, assistance with occupant confinement issues, securing access and egress pathways, traffic control and overall incident mitigation efforts.

It appears that a black Dodge Caravan was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and left the roadway running into the marshy area off John J. Williams Highway.  This incident was reported via Apple Watch Automatic Crash Notification with the possibilty of 3 adult occupants and 2 children occupants and the possibility of one occupant injury.  Emergency first responders had to utilize ladders for safe passage accessing the vehicle and assistance with occupant confinement issues by cutting vegetation overgrowth from nearby the vehicle.   All EMS units transported occupants to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the complete closure of John J. Williams Highway for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
