Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: 32746 Oak Orchard Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday, January 9^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road between River Road and Smith Landing Road.  It was reported to be vehicle versus shed and residential structure.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Millsboro EMS Unit as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included scene assessment, structure evaluation, notification of the County Building Inspector and discussion with the residential occupant regarding accessing the impacted area.  Rescue 80 remained on scene for initial evaluation and information before cancelling all other responding apparatus.

It appears that a white extended cab utility body truck, possibly a Ford, did not successful stop or reduce speed at the end of Oak Orchard Road running through a fence, striking a shed and support pillars for an overhead deck around the elevated residential structure. The driver and vehicle fled the scene prior to arrival of emergency response personnel.   There were no injuries associated with the residential occupants.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
