On Monday January 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company with a water rescue incident. Additional alerts included the United States Coast Guard – Indian River sector. It was reported that two duck hunters were hunting when thre vessel broke loose near Burton Island.

Response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility. Both units responded to Massey’s Landing boat ramp for further guidance.

80 Marine 2 launched and arrived at the incident to find the USCG vessel had retrieved the hunters, however their vessel was still floating in the bay. 80 Marine 2’s crew was able to recover the vessel and reunite it with the hunters at Massey Landing Public Boat Launch.

With assistance from the US Coast Guard, the hunters returned to their blind to retrieve other personal items before again returning to Massey Landing Public Boat Ramp to end their day of hunting.

There were no reported civilian or responder injuries.
