Nature: Multi Residential Structure Fire

Location: Long Neck Apts 200 Bldg (80) (Long Neck Apartments)

Address:  25897 River Bend Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Sunday morning, November 17^th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a multi-residential structure fire within the Long Neck Apartments on River Bend Road.  It was reported to be someone smoking in the bathroom and lit her oxygen on fire.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad and the Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Incident Command 80 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial 360 exterior evaluation with nothing showing from the exterior, identification of the utilities on side B and D of the complex, with identification that the fire was extinguished and cancellation of all mutual aid company responses.

It appears that an apartment complex resident was smoking in the bathroom area while utilizing her oxygen which caused a brief flash fire.

The fire response units were permitted to return to their respective quarters leaving the occupant with on-scene EMS provider.
