Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Lewes (82)
Location: 34133 Juniper Dr Sandy Brae, DE 19958
Early Monday morning, November 11th, the Indian River (80), Rehoboth Beach (86), Milton (85), Georgetown (77), Ellendale (75), Memorial (89), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted to assist Lewes (82) Fire Department with working residential structure fire. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and EMS units. It was reported to be a two-story residential structure fully involved with fire and possible subjects trapped.
Initial arriving first responders identified a house well involved with command calling for a defensive attack possession pending establishment of water supply from the nearest hydrant which was located on Plantations Road more than 3,000 feet away. Additional tankers were requested to respond to the incident location.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Many other mutual aid companies were impacted for cover up and/or standby assignments pending cessation of this incident.
Emergency response crew assignments included personnel to the manpower pool, assist with establishing water supply, tanker was requested to supply Milton for aerial and master stream operations, and other assignments as needed.
One person from the home was transported to nearby medical facilities.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated off sections of roadway that were impacted with the large diameter hose lay from Plantations Road to the incident location.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
