Nature: Brush Fire – Upgraded to Structure Fire
Location: 24459 Blue Blvd Shawns Hideaway, DE 19966
On Sunday evening, November 10th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was initially alerted for a brush fire on Blue Blvd in the Shawns Hideaway development off Banks Road. Upon arrival of initial arriving emergency apparatus, the incident was upgraded to a structure fire as a result of the brush fire spreading into the residence.
Upon announcement of the incident upgrade, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center alerted the Lewes (82) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire departments as well as the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Brush 80 and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included activation of fire suppression attack lines for the brush fire as well as the residential structure, evaluate and suppress the fire around and under the skirting / foundation of the structures, access and suppress the walls and eaves of the structures as well as pursuing an interior fire suppression plan of the residence. Eradicate and eliminate exterior fire concerns. The Lewes and Rehoboth Beach fire companies provided assistance with suppression activities.
It appears that brush and leaves caught fire between residential structures on Blue Boulevard which spread into and underneath nearby manufactured home foundations causing damage.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene access and perimeter for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
