Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: Bay Farm Road / John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro

On Wednesday, October 30^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle vs. trash truck as well as an automatic crash notification via cell phone.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper 2).

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, traffic control, patient stabilization if needed, fluid and debris recovery, as well as overall incident mitigation.

It appears that a garbage truck and a white Mercury Sable sedan collided at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Bay Farm Road.  The trash truck was attempting to turn onto Bay Farm Road from John J. Williams Highway when it was struck.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control with the closure of specific traffic patterns for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
