Nature: Apparatus - Aerial Ladder & Ground Ladder Certification Testing

On Saturday, October 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company conducted its Annual Aerial Ladder & Ground Ladder Certification process in accordance to National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Certification Requirements.

These NFPA Standard 1932 certification and inspection requirements include but not limited to the following:

  • Ground ladders should be tested annually or if subject to impact

  • Heat Sensor Label inspection which are set for approximately 300 degrees.  If activated, the color changes to all black, the ladder is placed OOS until testing for any areas of failure

  • Ground ladders are side tested to 300lb load and approximately 750lbs horizontally 

  • Horizontal bend tests

  • Deformation inspections

  • Aerial Truck Evaluation and Inspection in accordance with NFPA 1911

    • Telescoping Platform Inspection

    • Operation Test

    • Waterway Testing

    • Blot Torque

    • NDT Data
