Nature: Carbon Monoxide Detector

Location: 25742 American Av Leisure Point, DE 19966

On Thursday evening, October 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a carbon monoxide detector activation on American Ave in the Sun Retreats – Rehoboth Bay development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported that the resident had left the gas burners on within the residence.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included continuation with ventilation – natural and positive pressure, monitoring checks for CO levels as well as an interior and exterior evaluation.

After consultation with the residential occupant, it was determined that the gas burner was left on inside the residence.  The occupant started natural ventilation and went outside of the structure.  After continual gas detector readings rescinded, emergency response units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
