The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is pleased to announce the procurement and design of a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Double Cab Utility Body Truck to be utilized as a Traffic Control Unit.
Currently, the unit is transitioning and being retrofitted with the fire police and traffic control commodities which will assist the fire police when directing traffic. The traffic control unit will be equipped with emergency response vehicle emergency lighting, mobile and portable 800 MHz radio communications, LED scene lighting, hydraulic TRAFCON arrow board, traffic cones, signs, and other essential supplies that enhance visibility. The graphic design lettering and striping is being coordinated by Rogers Signs in Milton, Delaware
Once the vehicle is operational, the Fire Police Officers affiliated with Indian River will man the truck on designated events and emergency incidents within our immediate fire district as well as assist our mutual aid partners. This unit adds visibility for the fire police officers while performing their designated tasks and assignments.
The funding for the procurement of this vehicle was a collaborative effort with our elected officials – Delaware State Representative Jeff Hilovsky, as well as Delaware State Senators Gerald Hocker and Brian Pettyjohn.
This unit will be known as Traffic Control 80.
Indian River will publish updates regarding the progress of the vehicle before activation into active service.
