Nature: Electric Vehicle “Crash Course” Training for First Responders
Location: Millville Volunteer Fire Company – Station 84
On Saturday September 5th, 2024 the Millville (84) Volunteer Fire Company hosted a training class presented by the Delaware Valley Tesla Owners Club and a number of firefighters from the Indian River (80) Volunteer Fire Company attended the training opportunity. The course was entitled “Crash Course” and was developed to educate first responders on how to interact with electric vehicles involved in a crash or vehicle fire.
The course included a classroom session followed by a hands-on session allowing firefighters to examine numerous Tesla electric vehicles up close. The course was well attended by many first responders.

Relevant vehicle security features

Identify locations of high voltage (HV) components

Vehicle immobilization and disabling HC batteries

Firefighting Li-ion battery fires and/or submerged

Approaches for stabilization and extrication
