Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday evening, September 27^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with injuries on Indian Mission Road just north of John J. Williams Highway.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics and Millsboro EMS.  It was reported to be a multiple vehicle incident with injuries and possibility of two pediatric and one adult.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility and assisted with Lewes’ Engine 82-3 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included completed roadway closure between John J. Williams Highway and Friendship Road, patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation efforts.  Additional resources were called to the scene as needed.

This incident was a multi-vehicle incident involving a vehicle that did not identify and respond to slowing and stopping traffic awaiting at the traffic light.  The initial vehicle struck the rear of the next vehicle causing the chain of the events to unfold.  Multiple vehicles were rendered inoperable and needed assistance being separated.  Multiple persons were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the complete roadway closure assignments and assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
