Nature: Pole Fire

Location: Paradise Cove (80)

Address:  Long Neck Rd and Harbor Rd, DE 19966

On Tuesday evening, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a utility pole fire in the Paradise Cove development off Long Neck Road.  It was reported that the top of the pole was on fire with pending exposure to the transformer with embers falling on nearby residential structure roofs.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Tower 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included notification of the respective utility company, protection of residential exposure concerns as well as notification of bystanders to remain vigilant and clear of the impacted area. A fire suppression line was activated to wet down the roofs of the affected residential structures and other nearby areas from blowing embers.  Crews remained on-scene pending resolution via the utility service provider.

The respective utility company was notified of the situation and responded with personnel to pursue corrective action. 

The Delaware State Fire Police assisted with traffic that may have been impacted on Long Neck Road.
