Nature: Water Rescue – Priority 1 – Off Massey’s Landing Boat Ramp

Location: Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp Area

 

On Sunday, September 1st, the Indian River (80), Dagsboro (73), Millsboro (83) fire companies as well as the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2, and the DNREC Marine Police units were alerted for a water rescue incident in the area of the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp.  It was reported to be kayakers and paddleboarders stuck in the channel.  The kayaker descriptions were two (2) orange/yellow kayaks and two (2) blue/white paddleboards – two (2) - 13 year-old women, one - 15 year-old woman and one - 59 year-old woman. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush 80 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility and Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included an initial evaluation of the area which yielded contact with persons that met the descriptions playing in the grassy area across Massey’s Ditch and did not appear to be in distress and declined any further assistance.

All units were authorized to return to their respective quarters.
