Nature: Smoke Investigation

Location: 119 William Drive, William Ritter Manor, Millsboro

On Thursday afternoon, August 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a smoke investigation in the vicinity of William Drive in the William Ritter Manor.  It was reported to be heavy black smoke in the area.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Incident Command and Tanker 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression activities as well residential occupant education of the Delaware Burn Ban.

It appears that the occupants were conducted an inappropriate control burn which necessitated full extinguishment and explanation of the applicable state statutes.

All units were permitted to return to their respective quarters after extinguishment was complete.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company continue to identify that there is a Delaware Burning Ban through September 30th.
