Nature: Vehicle Accident – John B. Drive / Legion Road

Location: Legion Road, Millsboro, DE  19966

On Thursday morning, August 29^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle accident on Legion Road in the vicinity of John B. Drive.  It was reported that a dump truck took out a utility pole with wires and transformer down.  Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Other ancillary services were requested from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) and Delaware Electric Cooperative.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, incident mitigation efforts, fluid and debris recovery, prohibiting access to the area impacted by the downed wires and overall observation and incident management pending electric company arrival.

It appears that a dump truck got caught into the overhead electrical wires while traveling down Legion Road causing the utility pole to break with attached transformer and wires being pulled down as well.

The Delaware State Fire Police and DELDOT coordinated the complete closure of Legion Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware Electric Cooperative was required to attend to ensure that the down wires were not energized and pursue replacement of the utility pole, transformer and down wires.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
