Nature: MVC Entrapment – John J. Williams Hwy @ Shell Station

On Wednesday evening, August 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a two-vehicle collision. Additional emergency alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad as well as mutual aid from Milton (85) and Lewes (82) fire companies.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Units were apprised while responding of negative entrapment with the mutual aid companies being cancelled.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control, and overall incident mitigation efforts.
It appears that a Honda Accord and a Honda Passport SUV collided at the intersection causing driver’s side front end damage to both vehicles. Both vehicles were towed as a result of the collision.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident. The intersection traffic patterns were altered during the clean up process.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
