Over the past two days, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted and responded to various electrical hazards during the passing of inclement patterns of Debby within our immediate fire district.

These included the following responses:

  1. River Road, Riverdale, Millsboro

Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  This incident included a tarp or canvas from a tent covering a boat has blown over into the nearby power lines causing some lines to fall.

Emergency response units responded and identified this hazard was not electric wires down but cable television and cancelled the emergency response units.  Assistance was offered to mitigate and disassemble the canopy from being any further hazard.

  1. Salt Marsh Loop, White House Beach, Millsboro

Rescue 80 Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  This incident included an electrical issue with a nearby transformer blowing and primary electrical lines falling in multiple locations with the residential community along East Harbor Drive and immediate vicinity.

Emergency response units responded and identified this electrical hazard to the utility service provider and waited for an appropriate response from their service repair personnel.  Efforts to prevent passage along the downed power lines were implemented during this time period.
