On Saturday, July 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded and/or participated at multiple activities throughout the day.  Identified herewith is an incident synopsis of the day’s responses:

  •  03:43 - Nature: Structure Fire - Commercial/Industrial Building - Location: Mountaire Farms Office (83) WPL DEPARTMENT

This incident was an alarm activation with Tower 80 and Tanker 80 responding to the Mountaire Farms address on John J. Williams Highway to assist the Millsboro (83) Fire Company.  All units were cancelled while responding.

•              04:20 - Nature: Structure Fire - Residential (Multiple) - Mayfield Road, Victorias Landing

This incident was an alarm based upon the residential structure occupants smelling something burning within the multi residential structure.  Units responding to the incident location included Tower 80, Tanker 80 and Rescue 80.  An initial exterior evaluation of the structure was completed with an interior evaluation commencing.  Units were able to isolate the concern to an HVAC unit and notified the residential occupants that a certified maintenance contractor would be needed.

•              09:18 - Nature: Alarms - Mobile home, house trailer, portable office - Carbon monoxide - Dogwood Lane Leisure Point

This incident was an alarm based upon carbon monoxide detector activation within a mobile home (camper) type structure.  Units responding to the incident location included Incident Command 80, Tanker 80 and Rescue 80.  An initial exterior evaluation was completed with an interior evaluation and gas detector monitoring be coordinated.  Units were able to identify a faulty CO detector activation and returned all units.

•              13:31 - Nature: Alarms - Residential (Single) - Smoke detector - Pond Road Winding Creek Village

This incident was a smoke detector alarm sounding within the residential structure causing a residential occupant concern.  Units responding to the incident location included Incident Command 80, Tanker 80, Tower 80 and Engine #80-1 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  An initial exterior evaluation was completed with an interior evaluation being coordinated to identify the rationale for the alarm.  Units were able to identify a faulty smoke detector and encouraged the residential occupant to seek replacements.  All units were authorized to return to their respective stations.

•              19:47 - Nature: Alarms - Commercial Structure - Beebe Healthcare (80) – Long Neck Road

This incident was a general automatic fire alarm sounding within the commercial structure.  Units responding to the incident included Incident Command 80, Tanker 80, Tower 80 and Engine #80-1 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  An initial exterior evaluation was coordinated with an interior evaluation commencing.  Units were able to determine a faulty detector activation and silenced the alarm and await a response from the designated facility responder.  All units were authorized to return to their respective stations.

•              22:38 - Nature: Alarms - Mobile home, house trailer, portable office - Carbon monoxide- American Av Leisure Point

This incident was an alarm based upon carbon monoxide detector activation within a manufactured home type structure.  Units responding to the incident location included Incident Command 80, Tanker 80 and Rescue 80.  An initial exterior evaluation was completed with an interior evaluation and gas detector monitoring be coordinated as well as verification that the lp gas was shut off.  Units were able to identify a faulty CO detector activation and returned all units.

•              23:35 - Nature: Alarms - Residential (Single) - Smoke detector - Harbor Road, Pots Nets Bayside

This incident was an alarm based upon smoke detector activation within a manufactured home type structure.  Units responding to the incident location included Incident Command 80 and Rescue 80.  After a callback discussion between the alarm company and the residential occupants with proper passcodes, all units were cancelled while responding.
